The Newport Blog: Apartment Finished

Bedroom

This room had the least remodeling, mostly a nice coat of paint (meant to match the lampshade by the bed.) The room is a display piece for Stephen's iron wall-hangings (from the Pass Christian graveyard) and chair projects. (One chair reupholstered from blue to beige. Another chair skeleton can be seen in the living room.)

Living Room/Kitchen/Dining Room

This large combined space needed paint also. Stephen spent extra time on the cupboards, adding crown modling and new handles. On the fireplace, he removed many layers of paint to find flower engravings on the mantel. They were lightly re-painted and traced with gray. He also re-tiled the area around the fireplace. Last, he installed new light fixtures.

Bathroom

Stephen retiled the shower, floor, and installed beadboard on the walls. He converted a cabinet into a sink vanity and plumbed a new sink. He also added crown molding to a plain cabinet and installed new light fixtures.

We're moving to a new apartment on September 1. It has more space. So... another project!

The Newport Blog: Folk Festival

Simon & Jeannine McGown, our newlywed friends now living in New York City, came to visit us in Newport for the Folk Festival. The festival took place at Fort Adams, with three different stages divided by the fort walls.

The crowd was immense, including those who didn't buy tickets but sail around the pennisula to hear the show.

We walked from stage to stage to hear 11 different shows. My favorite groups:

The Avett Brothers - Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros - April Smith and the Great Picture Show
