The Newport Blog: Anniversary Block Island RI

May 22 was our two-year anniversary, and May 29 was Simon & Jeannine's one-year anniversary! We celebrated with a weekend on Block Island, an hour ferry boat ride south of Newport's Aquidneck Island.

We rented a cute little condo with two rooms and kitchen.

Most of the weekend, we explored the island on bicycle. (Stephen says we biked 60 miles over the three days.)

We also spent a lot of time on the nearly-empty beaches! We made a bonfire & s'mores one night.

We visited lighthouses at the North and South-East points of the island. At the North point, we noticed what appeared to be a group of dogs swimming in the ocean.

But they were seals! They were curious enough to swim close to shore, and seemed to be watching the people watch them. (This one is named Sealy-Bob.)

On Sunday, we rented kayaks. Our condo was near a series of connected lakes which also fed into the "Great Salt Pond" in the center of the island.
